Put your registration, Garda vetting and mandatory training where a recruiter sees them in the first five seconds. In this sector those three things decide whether you get read at all.

Lead with your tickets. Safe Pass, CSCS, and your trade card get you shortlisted, so they belong near the top, not buried at the bottom under hobbies.

Covers, cash and speed. Say how busy the room was and what you handled, because "worked in a busy restaurant" tells a manager nothing they can compare.

What to copy from this one

Licence categories, CPC and forklift tickets in the headline. Add clean-licence status and any tacho or ADR training, because those are the filters used on every job spec in the sector.

The rules all six follow

Two pages, no photo

No photo, no date of birth, no marital status and no PPS number. Irish recruiters do not expect them, and some will discard a CV that includes them.

Achievements, not duties

Every bullet says what changed. A number, a percentage or an outcome, because "responsible for" tells a hiring manager nothing they can compare.

Certifications near the top

Safe Pass, QQI levels, Garda vetting, licence categories. In some sectors these are the shortlisting filter, so they belong in the headline, not the footer.

Newest job first

Reverse chronological, with months and years. Gaps are better explained in the cover letter than hidden by vague dates.

Questions about Irish CVs

What does a good Irish CV look like?

Two pages at most, no photo, no date of birth and no marital status. Name and contact details at the top, a short profile, then work history newest first with achievements rather than duties, then education and skills. Every example on this page follows that shape.

Should I put a photo on my CV in Ireland?

No. Irish employers generally do not expect one, and some recruiters discard CVs with photos to avoid any suggestion of bias in shortlisting. The same goes for your date of birth, marital status and PPS number.

How long should an Irish CV be?

Two pages. One is fine early in your career and expected for a first job. Going to three pages usually means you are listing duties instead of achievements, or keeping jobs from fifteen years ago that no longer earn their space.

Do I need referees on the CV?

Not necessarily. "References available on request" is enough, and it saves your referees from cold calls. Public sector applications and some agencies do ask for names and contact details up front, so read the job spec.

How do I write achievements instead of duties?

Add a number or an outcome. "Responsible for stock" is a duty. "Cut stock discrepancies by a third with a twice-weekly count on high-loss lines" is an achievement. Same job, but the second one gives a manager something to compare.

Should I change my CV for every application?

Change the profile and the top three bullet points to match the job spec, and leave the rest. That is 10 minutes of work and it is what gets you past both keyword filters and a human skim.

My qualification is from outside Ireland, what do I write?

Give the qualification as awarded, the institution and the country, then the Irish equivalent if you know it. NARIC Ireland issues comparability statements free of charge, and quoting one removes any doubt for the recruiter. The hospitality example on this page shows the format.

The people in these examples are invented, and so are the phone numbers and email addresses. The employers are real Irish companies used only to show what a plausible work history looks like.

Sources

Sources and method

The CV builder runs entirely in your browser. What you type is laid out into the standard Irish format (contact details, profile, work history newest first, education, skills, referees on request) and turned into a Word or PDF file on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no account, no upload and no copy on our servers. Close the tab and the draft stays only in your browser storage.

The format follows what Irish recruiters and the public employment service ask for: no photo, no date of birth, two pages at most. The builder does not screen your CV, match you to jobs or send it to employers. For the rules on what an employer may and may not ask, and for help with a job search, use the sources below.
